2007-07-15 After the racing season is before the racing season! Actually for most dog drivers in snowless central Europe there was no season. And even in Scandinavia you had to search for the white stuff well into January. After warm spells turned things on a regular base to ice, winter finally blessed us for a short period with good training conditions. But a week before Polardistans, spring returned. Manfred left it to others to get wet feet and tackle the ice, as we believe Siberians are an arctic breed and there was nothing to win. Instead, we added other excitements to our lives, shifting the focus in our kennel towards enlarging the gene pool. From Ruhl’s “Howling Spirit Kennel” we imported Mishawum’s Perfect Balance (“Lotos”) and her pups Chili, Poorga, Ribut and Sirkos. We took Tynset and Tolga home from Coldfeet Kennel. They are out of Seth Sjöblom’s leader Miró and our U.S. import Motomo’s Foxtrott. In April Alka-Shan’s Enia, pregnant from Alka-Shan’s Iron-Man went on lease to Henning & Marie Schnoor’s Vakarevo’s Kennel. She had a litter of three, and one of the girls will help to broaden the gene pool in south Sweden. They also bred their Vakarevo’s Anushka to Nay-La-Chee’s Narrow Trail Fennek in hope of fielding a middle distance team in the future. Fennek is available for stud at their home. Linda and Sara Ruhl visited us in May, when they brought Howling Spirit’s Ranger to Stefan & Silvia Roppelt (Frankoniapower) where he is now available as stud. In return, Linda and Sara took Don of South-Mac-Millan, one of our main leaders, back to the U.S. where he is available for stud till early winter. Here at our kennel we got 2/3 puppies out of Don X Howdy four weeks ago. We also bred Alka-Shan’s Low-Limit to Alka-Shan’s Kamloops (“Hex”), the future V-litter. |
