What started out with “Kara of Chippoorwill” as a companion dog to go horseback riding, emerged within 5 years into a racing kennel, unplanned and unwillingly.

After my return to Germany with Kara and her son Kimo (“Eskimo of Northland Huskie”) I was sure to start more of a horse carreer than anything else. My time was completely filled with training and showing horses. However, after I discovered another breeder with an interesting, sporty looking Siberian sleddog, I decided to mate Kara to him and help to introduce this breed into our country. She gave birth to only two females, the Alka-Shan-A-litter, Arctic-Melodie and Alaska-Lady. I kept both, just in case that something should happen to my old bitch. Unfortunately it did, when she and her pups ran away for adventure and ended up killing some chicken in the neighbor town. The guy thought it had been escaped wolves from a zoo or whatsoever and killed Kara. The pups escaped and came back. Back then Siberians were very rare, and even “experts” declared her - partly because of her blue eyes - to be a wolf. After I found out about her sad ending through the newspaper, I straightend out things. For a while I had enough of dogs.

... to be continued soon ...
